A professional photographer of Pakistani-American Sania Khan was shot dead by her ex-husband in her apartment in Streeterville, Chicago.
Sania suffered a gunshot wound behind her head.
After shooting him, Sania’s ex -husband, who was identified as Raheel Ahmad who was 36 years old, then turned on the gun itself.
He was found by police in the bedroom with a head injury. A pistol was found in his hand and a suicide record was found nearby, according to Sun-Times report.
Ahmad was transported to the Northwestern hospital where he was declared dead.
“His death was ordered as a murder, according to the medical examination office. His death was registered as suicide,” the report said.
The reported Raheel Ahmad reportedly traveled from Georgia to Chicago in an effort to save his marriage because their divorce was completed in May.
“He held a 9mm Glock Pistol, and a suicide record was found nearby,” reported State.
People, quoting from the Khan website, reported that he was a professional photographer who moved to Chicago from Chattanooga in June 2021.
“I used to love traveling so I was a flight attendant,” he wrote. “My favorite stopover is always Chicago and who knows 2 years later I will move there?”
Khan also posted about the marriage and personal struggle in Tiktok.
In one Tiktok post, he wrote, “It really hurts to leave someone you have ever loved. But even more painful to love someone who is careless with your heart.”
In another post, he wrote: “Through divorce as a South Asian woman feels like you sometimes fail in life,” he wrote. “The way the community gives your label, the lack of emotional support you receive, and the pressure to stay with someone because of ‘what people will say isolated. Making it more difficult for women to leave a marriage that they should not enter to start with,” he wrote, as mentioned in the people’s report.
Pakistani women and Sania friends have been brought to Twitter to grieve in the death of Sania and to highlight the harsh relationship.
