New Delhi: The main political controversy has been raging in the Indian Indian Ocean Island State since June, which has dragged India right into the eyes of the storm. While the Indian government has chosen to side with Prime Minister Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth, Imbroglio is deeper from day to day.

Everything began with the resignation of Juni Juni former CEO Mauritius Telecom (MT) Sherry Singh. When resigning, Singh, is considered a person in the main government and people who are close to Jugnauth, make a faint statement to his employees who say: “I cannot continue without sacrificing my values and that is not a choice for me.”

In an interview with the media, Singh then made accusations about PM Mauriti, signaling Indian hands in controversy about the safe cable (South Africa), a 13,500-KM blanket optical fiber cable that connects South Africa, Mauritius, La Réunion in La Réunion in France, India and Malaysia.

In the two interviews given to Le Défi Media Group and La Sentinelle, which was broadcast live, Singh accused that PM Jugnauth had forced him to allow the “Indian team” to access safe cable landing stations in Baie-Du-Jacotet, a prohibited region.

Singh also said that the main purpose of PM was to install the “sniff” device that would spy on the internet traffic of Mauritian.

The Special Department of Criminal Department in the country is investigating this issue, on the orders of Jugnauth.

Asked about this issue, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Arindam Bagchi Thursday tried to underestimate him. “I don’t know if I have complete details about it, but my understanding is that the Prime Minister Mauritius has made a statement. I really don’t have anything to add further. I think it’s quite good from our perspective, “he said.

Jungnauth responded to Singh’s accusations on Thursday, when talking to Mediapersons. “Where is the undeniable evidence, if he keeps his right to silence?” He asked.

PM Mauritius also said, “When he accused me of doing something illegal, I hoped he left and gave a statement to the police. He didn’t do it when I gave him time. So I made a statement to the police. “

Political tsunami ‘

Former CEO Mauritius Telecom, who was reportedly also had an interest in joining politics and negotiating with the opposition parties there, told the media group Le Défi: “With or without me, there will be a political tsunami.”

In an interview with local media, Singh put aside the role of Indian national security advisor Ajit Doval in this matter, but said that “the leader of the Indian technician team came for cables”.

Asked why he let the cable accessed, Singh said, “The prime minister is the highest leader, I must comply with orders. But I cannot accept that third parties have access to personal data, because it will be a betrayal. “

The opposition blames India, Mauritian NSA under fire

The opposition parties of Mauritius have linked the controversy and use this kind, raising questions about why NSA is currently in their country, Kumarasan ilango, is an Indian and not a Mauriti.

An IPS 1982-Batch officer, Ilango is a pioneer for the position of Head of India’s Wing Research and Analysis (RAW) in 2018. He is a station commander at the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, where he is allegedly blamed for playing a role in overthrowing their former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In September 2021, he was appointed by Jugnauth as NSA Mauritius. It was he who directed Mauritius to become a Colombo security concrete member about maritime security cooperation with India, Sri Lanka and Maldives, at a meeting held in March this year.

Earlier this week, Reza Uteem, an opposition leader of the Mauritian Militant Movement (MMM), tried to connect the controversy with the appointment of ilango.

For this, the PM replied that while the controversy was being investigated, NSA was appointed to follow the “Indian government’s request”.

Responding to Uteem, PM also said, “What do you get to India? … It is very sorry that some people in the opposition pamper themselves in the systematic Bashing India to pursue their evil agenda.”
